Dulebs
an Eastern Slavic group of tribes who lived in Western Volyn’. According to the chronicles, the Dulebs suffered greatly from an invasion of the Avars in the seventh century; in 907 the druzhina (prince’s retinue) of Dulebs participated in Oleg’s campaign against Tsar’grad (Constantinople). The Dulebs and their “king” are mentioned by the Arabian geographer Al-Masudi. In the tenth century, this union of tribes apparently dissolved, and the group became part of Kievan Rus’ under the names Volyniane and Buzhane. REFERENCETret’iakov, P. N.
