Dunantul

Dunántúl 

a plain in Hungary, a part of the Central Danube Plain, along the right bank of the Danube. In the relief of the Dunántúl, hilly plains with an altitude of 150-200 m combine with low and middle range mountains (the Bakony, Vertes, Mekšek, and Gerecse ranges) with an altitude up to 757 m. The plains are formed primarily of sandstone and clay, which are covered in part by loess, while the mountains are formed of limestone and basalt. In the central region of the Dunántúl is Lake Balaton, the largest in Hungary. The climate is temperate and continental. Annual precipitation ranges from 500-600 to 700-900 mm (in the mountains). The upper regions of the mountain slopes are covered in places by oak and beech forests. Most of the Dunántúl is tilled (wheat, corn, gardens, vineyards). There are deposits of coal, bauxite, and manganese ore. The largest city is Pécs.
