Dunbar, Helen Flanders (1902–59) psychoanalyst; born in Chicago. She received the M.D. at Yale University in 1930, then taught and conducted research at Columbia University (1931–39). She made major contributions to psychosomatic theory and holistic medicine and was an instructor at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute (1941–49). A practicing clinician, she wrote four books, including Psychiatry in the Medical Specialties (1959).
