Duniway, Abigail Scott (dŭn`əwā'), 1834–1915, American editor and advocate of women's rights, b. near Groveland, Ill. She went to Oregon with her family in 1852 and the next year married Benjamin Charles Duniway. For many years she edited the New Northwest in Portland and through her writings and lectures became recognized as the leader of the woman's movement in the Northwest. For her account of her part in the movement, see Path Breaking (1914).
