On the southern border of MO, southwest of Cape Girardeau; organized Feb 14, 1845 from Stoddard County. Name Origin: For Daniel Dunklin (1790-1844), governor of MO (1833-36) and surveyor-general of MO, IL, and AR.

Area (sq mi): 547.11 (land 545.62; water 1.49). Pop per sq mi: 59.60.
Pop 2005: 32,545. State rank: 35. Pop change: 2000-20005 -1.80%; 1990-2000 0.10%. Pop 2000: 33,155 (White 87.40%; Black or African American 8.70%; Hispanic or Latino 2.50%; Asian 0.30%; Other 2.40%). Foreign born: 1.50%. Median age: 37.80.
