There are interesting traces of Stone and Bronze Age civilizations, including the Maiden Bower and Five Knolls earthworks; one of the Knolls, excavated in 1926, contained remains and ornaments of a woman of c.2000 B.C. The Priory Church includes part of an Augustinian priory founded with the town in 1131. Whipsnade Zoo is nearby. Dunstable has a College of Further Education.
