duoplasmatron [‚dü·ō′plaz·mə‚trän]
(electronics) An ion-beam source in which electrons from a hot filament are accelerated sufficiently to ionize a gas by impact; the resulting positive ions are drawn out by high-voltage electrons and focused into a beam by electrostatic lens action.
