Duquesnoy, François

    0.10 sec.
Duquesnoy, François (fräNswä` dükĕnwä`), 1594–1643, Flemish sculptor. In 1618 he went to Rome, where he remained most of his life, eventually becoming one of the most sought after sculptors of his day. His small reliefs and statuettes in bronze, ivory, and wax were often inspired by classical art, especially his spirited scenes of children. Among his monumental works are the self-contained figure of St. Susanna in Santa Maria di Loreto and the more baroque St. Andrew under the dome of St. Peter's.
