Also found in: Wikipedia | 0.09 sec. |
dye sublimation printerA printer that produces continuous-tone images that look like photographic film. Also called a "thermal dye printer," the print cartridge contains a cellophane ribbon with panels of dye the same size as the page to be printed. There are four panels for each print: one each of cyan, magenta and yellow (CMY) and a final clear coat that allows the print to be handled immediately without smudging. Special dye-receptive paper is used.

| Consumers and professional photographers worldwide preferred the print quality of photos from the three-ink HP Photosmart 385 Photo Printer over photos printed on competitive systems, including six-ink inkjet printers, dye-sublimation printers and lab-processed photos. This month's Kodak Tech Brief focuses on the growing use of dye-sublimation printers in home- and small-office photo applications. 5" x 5" photo-lab-quality, edge-to-edge color prints with or without borders in less than 45 seconds - making it the fastest dye-sublimation printer of its kind on the market today. |
