Dzierżoniów (jēĕrzhô`ny
f), Ger. Reichenbach, town (1994 est. pop. 38,900), Dolnośląskie prov., SW Poland. It is a manufacturing center known for its textiles (especially woolens) and for its machine-building and electrical equipment industries. The town was the site of the signing of two treaties. By the first (1790), Austria promised Prussia to renounce acquisition of Turkish territory. By the second (1813), Austria conditionally consented to join the coalition against Napoleon I.Dzierzoniów a city in southwestern Poland, in the Sudetes, in Wroclaw Wojewodztwo. Population, 33,000 (1970). Together with the city of Bielawa, it forms a conurbation with a highly developed textile industry.
