Dzugaev, Georgii Khasakoevich 

Born Mar. 15 (28), 1911, in the village of Dzugatykau, in present-day Dzhava Raion, Iuzhnaia Osetiia Autonomous Ob last. Soviet Ossetian poet. Member of the CPSU from 1939.

Dzugaev’s first collection of verse, A Ray of Sun, was published in 1938. In his narrative poem The Sword (1937-39), Dzugaev follows the tradition of the popular heroic song in his depiction of the civil war in Ossetia. The narrative poems Khamat (1936-37) and Komsomol Member Soltan (1938) describe the collectivization of agriculture and the class struggle in the countryside. Dzugaev also wrote the narrative poems Kolkhoz Kosta (1948),Natlia (1954-55), and Love (1956), the novella In the Mountain Ravine (1957), the novel On the Tip of the Blade (1964), and several collections of stories and verses. He has translated A. S. Pushkin’s Poltava, T. G. Shevchenko’s Katerina, and M. Isakovskiïs poetry into Ossetic. Dzugaev has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
