A European framing specification for the transmission of 256 multiplexed E1 data streams, resulting in a transmission rate of 565.148 Mbps (= 565,148 kb/s).

A 565.148 Mbps point-to-point dedicated, digital circuit provided by the telephone companies in Europe. E5 lines carry four multiplexed E4 channels. See E1, E4 and DS.
