On the northeastern border of LA, north of Baton Rouge; organized Feb 17, 1824 from Feliciana Parish. Name Origin: From the division of Feliciana Parish into two parishes: East and West. Name is Spanish for 'happiness,' or possibly for Felicite, the wife of a colonial governor.
