East YorkBorough (pop., 2001: 115,185), southeastern Ontario, Canada. With the cities of North York, Toronto, Scarborough, York, and Etobicoke, it forms the municipality of Metropolitan Toronto. A planned industrial and residential urban complex, it was established in 1967 through the amalgamation of the former East York township (created in 1924) and the former town of Leaside (settled 1819). Based on Statistics Canada census data from 1981 to 2001, the report indicates 1981 higher neighbourhood poverty was mostly concentrated in the old City of Toronto while today, that poverty is spread across the city's inner suburbs, particularly in the former cities of North York and Scarborough, York and East York. On Wednesday evening, two-year Officer Candice Mudgett, 28, was en route to assist a police unit involved in a high-speed chase of a motorcycle that failed to yield, when she was involved in a collision with two other vehicles near the intersection of East York Boulevard and Verdugo Road in Glendale at about 8:40 p. 1, 1998, when Toronto Hydro-Electric Commission, East York Hydro, Etobicoke Hydro, North York Hydro, Scarborough Public Utilities and York Hydro were consolidated into one company. |
