Eastern Mountains
mountains on the eastern side of the Indian peninsula, between the Mahanadi River in the north and the Godavari in the south; part of the Eastern Ghats. The Eastern Mountains are about 500 km long. The eastern slope faces the Bay of Bengal and is steep; the opposite slope is more gradual. The highest point is Devodi-Munda (1,680 m). The Eastern Mountains are composed mainly of gneiss and granite. They consist of individual un-evenly raised clumpy massifs with leveled surfaces which are deeply scored by narrow valleys. The slopes have thick deciduous monsoon forests, and there are manganese deposits. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
