Eckstein, Otto (1927–84) economist; born in Ulm, Germany. He fled Nazi Germany with his family in 1938, first to England, then to the U.S.A. Educated at Princeton and Harvard, he joined the Harvard faculty in 1955. A pioneer of econometric models of the U.S. economy, he helped found the economic analysis firm, Data Resources, and in the 1960s served the Johnson Administration on the Council of Economic Advisers (1964–66). He returned to Harvard after his government service to become the Paul M. Warburg Professor of Economics (1966–84). How to thank TFD for its existence?
