Edes, Benjamin (1732–1803) journalist; born in Boston, Mass. A planner of the Boston Tea Party, he cofounded, with John Gill, the pro-Patriot Boston Gazette and Country Journal (the third paper so named) in 1775. It declined after the American Revolution and shut down in 1789; Edes spent his last years in poverty. How to thank TFD for its existence?
