Edmond, city (1990 pop. 52,315), Oklahoma co., central Okla.; settled 1889. It is a trading center with a huge oil field and small industries that manufacture concrete, petroleum products, and other goods. The city's population nearly tripled from 1970 to 1990. The Univ. of Central Oklahoma is in Edmond. South of the city in Memorial Park is the grave of Wiley Post Post, Wiley, 1899–1935, American aviator, b. Grand Plain, Tex. He won fame in 1931 when he and Harold Gatty flew around the northern part of the earth in 8 days 15 hr 51 min. In 1933 he made a second flight alone.
