Eduard Grigoliuk

Grigoliuk, Eduard Ivanovich 

Born Dec. 13, 1923, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in the field of mechanics. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958).

Upon graduating from the Moscow Institute of Aviation (1944), Grigoliuk taught at the school. From 1946 to 1950 he lectured at the N. E. Bauman Higher Technical School. From 1953 he taught at the Institute of Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He has been a professor at the Moscow Institute of Aviation since 1965. Grigoliuk is also head of a laboratory at Moscow University. His main works deal with the mechanics of deformable bodies. He developed a general theory of the strength, stability, and finite buckling of bimetallic structures and of three-layered and multilayered shells with fillers that absorb shear. He also developed a general theory of stability of thin shells beyond the elastic limit and worked out problems related to the combined deformations of solid, liquid, and gaseous media.
