Johnson, Edward, 1881–1959, Canadian tenor and operatic manager, b. Guelph, Ont. As Eduardo di Giovanni, he sang in Italian opera houses (1912–19). In 1920 he joined the Chicago Opera Company and in 1922, the Metropolitan. In 1935 he became general manager of the Metropolitan Opera, retiring in 1950. He was succeeded by Rudolf Bing Bing, Rudolf , 1902–97, Austrian operatic manager. Naturalized a British subject in 1946, he was general manager of the Glyndebourne operatic festivals (1934–49) and artistic manager of the Edinburgh International Festival (1947–49).
..... Click the link for more information. . Johnson, Edward (1598–1672) historian; probably born in Canterbury, England. He was trained as a joiner, then emigrated to Boston (1630). He traded with the Indians and settled in Charlestown, Mass. (1636). A founder of Woburn, Mass. (1640), he worked at a variety of civic positions. He is best known for his work extolling the attractions of the colonies in America, The Wonder-Working Providence of Sion's Savior in New England (1653), published in England in 1654 as A History of New England.
