Lipiński, Edward 

Born Nov. 24, 1888, in Nowe Miasto. Polish public figure and economist; member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1952). Member of the Polish Socialist Party since 1946 and of the Polish United Workers’ Party since 1948.

In 1918–20, Lipiński was director of the labor inspectorate in Warsaw, later becoming director of the department of labor and industrial statistics of the Polish Main Statistical Administration. Between 1923 and 1928 he taught at the Main Trade School in Warsaw, and from 1928 to 1939 he served as director of the Institute of Research on Economic Conditions and Prices. During the fascist occupation he headed an illegal school of economics in Częstochowa. After the liberation of Poland he did research and taught at various schools, including the Institute of the National Economy and the Main School of Planning and Statistics. Since 1950 he has been a professor at the University of Warsaw. He has written on the political economy of socialism and the history of economic theories.
