In southeastern IL, south of Olney; organized Nov 28, 1814 (prior to statehood) from Madison and Gallatin counties. Name Origin: For Ninian Edwards (1775-1833), KY legislator and jurist, and territorial (1809-18) and civil (1826-30) governor of IL.
