    0.02 sec.
Kapiev, Effendi Mansurovich

Born Feb. 28 (Mar. 13), 1909, in the village of Kumukh, present-day Lakskii Raion, Dagestan ASSR; died Jan. 27, 1944, in Piatigorsk. Soviet Dagestani writer.

Kapiev was of Lak nationality but wrote in Russian. He translated the poems of Suleiman Stal’skii and Caucasian tribal songs into Russian. His collections of examples of mountaineers’ epic and lyric poetry Songs of the Mountaineers (1939) and Stone Carving (1940) were published in Moscow. The cycle of short stories The Poet (1940, published in 1944), which was unified by the central generalized image of the folk poet Suleiman, was widely known. The Poet has been translated into many languages of peoples of the USSR and into foreign languages. Kapiev was also the author of Sketches From the Front (1942^43, published in 1944) and Notebooks (Dagestan Notebook, 1934–40, and Diary of the Front, 1941–44). Kapiev’s works are permeated by Soviet patriotism, belief in the friendship of peoples, and a keen feeling for modern life.
