Egishe
an Armenian historian of the fifth century A.D. who lived at the time of the Armenian national uprising against Persian hegemony in 450–451. Egishe’s major work, The History of Vardan and the Armenian War, is devoted to the national uprising and describes the background of the uprising, the warring factions, the progress of the uprising, the battle of Avarair on May 26, 41, and other events of the years 428–465. His works constitute a very important source for the history of Armenia and other states of Transcaucasia and Iran. The patriotic tenor of the History and its colorful language assured its great popularity in Armenia. WORKS[Eghishe.] Vardani ev Hayots’ paterazmi masin. Yerevan, 1971.REFERENCESNalbandian, V. S.
