Egorov, Mikhail Vasil’evich 

Born Jan. 4 (17), 1907, in Gatchina, in what is now Leningrad Oblast. Soviet state figure. Hero of Socialist Labor (1963). Member of the CPSU since 1938.

The son of a worker, Egorov graduated from the F. E. Dzerzhinskii Higher Naval Engineering School in 1930. In the same year he took up the first in a series of technical and engineering posts at naval scientific research institutions. Between 1939 and 1955 he held positions as a supervisor and chief engineer with central boards of the People’s Commissariat for the Shipbuilding Industry of the USSR, the Ministry of the Shipbuilding Industry of the USSR, and the Ministry of Transportation and Heavy Machine Building of the USSR.

Egorov served as deputy minister of the shipbuilding industry of the USSR from 1955 to 1958. From 1958 to 1976 he was first deputy chairman of the State Committee on Shipbuilding of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and first deputy minister of the shipbuilding industry of the USSR. In 1976 he became minister of the shipbuilding industry of the USSR, and in 1980 he became a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He was a deputy to the ninth and tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Egorov has been awarded five Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, seven other orders, and various medals. [30–1757–4)
