Eiffel, Alexandre Gustave (ī`fəl, Fr. älĕksäN`drə güstäv` āfĕl`), 1832–1923, French engineer. A noted constructor of bridges and viaducts, he also designed the Eiffel Tower Eiffel Tower, structure designed by A. G. Eiffel and erected in the Champ-de-Mars for the Paris exposition of 1889.
