Rakh’ia, Eino Abramovich 

Born June 20, 1885, in Kronstadt; died Apr. 26, 1936, in Leningrad. Figure in the Finnish and Russian revolutionary movement. Member of the Communist Party from 1903. Brother of I. A. Rakh’ia.

During the Revolution of 1905–07, Rakh’ia was a metalworker for the Finnish Railroad and engaged in the transporting of arms and illegal literature. From 1911 to 1917 he carried on party work in Petrograd. After the July Days of 1917, he was involved in protecting V. I. Lenin and in providing security for Lenin’s conspiratorial trip from Razliv to Finland and back to Petrograd. Rakh’ia served as a liaison between the Central Committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) and Lenin. In 1918, Rakh’ia commanded a Red Guard detachment during the revolution in Finland. From 1919 to 1931 he was engaged in military-political work in the Red Army. During the Civil War he was commissar of several divisions. He participated in the creation of the Communist Party of Finland (CPF) and was a member of its Central Committee. He was a delegate of the CPF to the First through Third Congresses of the Comintern. In 1932 he retired with a special pension. He was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner.
