Eisenman, Peter D. (David) (1932– ) educator, author, architect; born in Newark, N.J. Founder/director of the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies, New York (1967–82), Eisenman espoused a linguistic theory of architecture, becoming a controversial but internationally influential deconstructivist theoretician. His later work included such large institutional projects as the Wexner Center (1983–89, with Richard Trott), Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
