Eisner, (William Erwin) Will (1917– ) cartoonist; born in New York City. After studying at the Arts Students League in New York City, in 1937 he created the action-adventure newspaper comic strips, The Three Brothers, K-51, and the successful Hawk of the Seas, a swashbuckling tale of buccaneers. In 1940 he created a comic book insert for Sunday newspapers featuring his most popular work, The Spirit, which also became a long-running newspaper comic strip. How to thank TFD for its existence?
