Ekel’chik, Iuriiizrailevich
Born Sept. 18, 1907, in Minsk; died Apr. 19, 1956, in Moscow. Soviet motion picture cameraman. Member of the CPSU from 1946. Ekel’chik, a 1931 graduate of the Kiev Motion Picture Institute, did the camera work for the films Ivan (1932, in collaboration with D. P. Demutskii and M. M. Glider), Shchors (1939), Bogdan Khmel’nitskii (1941), The Wedding (1944), Spring (1947), The Battle of Stalingrad (1949), The Inspector-General (1952), and The First Special Train (1956). The first Soviet cameraman to experiment with the use of wide-screen film, Ekel’chik was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1942 and 1950. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
