El Reno (ĕl rē`nō), city (1990 pop. 15,414), seat of Canadian co., central Okla.; inc. 1889. In an agricultural area (wheat, cattle, dairying), the city also has diversified industry (aircraft and oil-field services, and the manufacture of mobile homes and chemicals). A federal correction center and the county historical museum are located in El Reno.

Soil scientist Jean Steiner and hydrologist Jin-Song Chen at the ARS Grazinglands Research Laboratory in El Reno, Oklahoma, spearheaded the STEWARDS program in collaboration with soil scientist John Sadler of the ARS Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research Unit in Columbia, Missouri.
An unborn baby was one of three people killed in a 1998 fire that destroyed an apartment building in El Reno, Oklahoma.
