The temperature at which ideal gas molecules would have an average kinetic energy equal to that of electrons in a plasma under consideration.

In their initial demonstration, Martinis and his colleagues lowered the electron temperature from 100 to 85 millikelvins.
Using plasma that has both a high density and a low electron temperature, this technology enables the generation of high concentrations of oxygen radicals.
2 megawatts, the researchers pushed the plasma's ion temperature to 430 million kelvins and its electron temperature to 120 million kelvins.
