electronic cigarette A battery powered cigarette, cigar or pipe that uses a canister filled with liquid nicotine in various potencies. A vapor is inhaled and exhaled, giving the person the sensation of a real cigarette and the appearance of smoking tobacco. The inhalation triggers the unit to make the head glow red and atomize the liquid into a vapor. Also called "e-cigarettes," they are not designed to wean people from smoking; rather, their claim is that they are healthier because they have no tar and that people can use them in areas where tobacco would be prohibited.Want to thank TFD for its existence?
