electrostatic loudspeaker [i‚lek·trə′stad·ik ′lau̇d‚spēk·ər]
(engineering acoustics)
A loudspeaker in which the mechanical forces are produced by the action of electrostatic fields; in one type the fields are produced between a thin metal diaphragm and a rigid metal plate. Also known as capacitor loudspeaker.

Of course, there are negatives to using an electrostatic design; the most significant is that electrostatic speakers must be much larger than their dynamic counterparts to move the same amount of air.
