Alekseeva, Elizaveta Georgievna
Born June 9 (22), 1901, in Moscow; died there Feb. 18, 1972. Soviet Russian actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1971). Alekseeva studied at the School of the Moscow Art Theater and at E. B. Vakhtangov’s studio. Beginning in 1922 she performed at the studio, which was renamed the Evg. Vakhtangov Theater in 1926. Her outstanding parts included the title role in Seifullina and Pravdukhin’s Virineia and the characters Glafira in Gorky’s Egor Bulychov and the Others, Katerina in Ostrovskii’s The Thunderstorm, and Anna Andreevna in Gogol’s The Inspector-General. She joined the teaching staff of the B. V. Shchukin Theatrical School in 1930 and was made a professor there in 1946. Alekseeva received the State Prize of the USSR in 1952; she also was awarded two orders and various medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
