Elk City State Park Location: 5 miles northwest of Independence, KS. Facilities: 95 utility campsites (11 sites with full hookups, 84 with electric and water hookups), 55 primitive non-utility sites, restrooms and showers, 3 group shelters, nature trails, exercise trail, swimming beach, 3-lane boat ramps, 2 courtesy docks, fishing pier (é), disc golf course. Activities: Camping, fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, mountain biking, nature study. Special Features: Park has a nationally recognized trail system, including the 3-mile Table Mound Trail, which is named for the park's most prominent feature, a sheer limestone bluff. The park property is leased for public park and recreational purposes through an ageement between the state and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
