Elksne, Ārlja 

(pen name of Ārija Fišere). Born Feb. 7, 1928, in Krustpils. Soviet Latvian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1963.

Elksne graduated from the Riga Medical Institute in 1953. She first published her works in 1956. She is the author of the poetry collections The Ears of Grain Speak (1960), For You, O Land! (1963), Light From the Mountaintops (1968), Third Infinity (1971), On the Shore of Silence (1973), One More River to Cross (1975), and Think Your Way to the Sun (1977). Elksne’s lyric hero is our contemporary in all the variety and depth of his ideas and experience.
