El’tekov, Aleksandr Pavlovich
Born 1846, in Briansk; died July 7 (19), 1894, in Yalta. Russian organic chemist. El’tekov graduated from the University of Kharkov in 1868 and became a professor there in 1887. From 1889 to 1894 he was a professor at the University of Kiev. El’tekov showed that isomeric aldehydes and ketones are usually formed when trying to make a compound with the enol structure. In 1878, El’tekov discovered a reaction for the alkylation of olefins; the reaction has been applied in industry in the synthesis of motor fuel. REFERENCEKhotinskii, E.
