Special Features: In 1769 Spanish explorers entered Los Angeles for the first time by crossing the bluff in Elysian Park overhanging the Los Angeles River, about where the Broadway Bridge is today.

ELYSIAN PARK Fire was set: Investigators say a three-acre wildfire that broke out late Saturday night and was extinquished early Sunday morning in Elysian Park was intentionally set, a Fire Department spokesman said.
It skirts the Garvanza district, and continues south through Highland Park until it joins the Los Angeles River not far from Elysian Park.
The hypothetical-earthquake exercise, planned long before January's disaster, addressed a shock occurring on the Elysian Park fault, a fracture that produced a magnitude 5.
