Emerson, Rollins A. (Adams) (1873–1947) geneticist; born in Pillar Point, N.Y. He served the U.S. Department of Agriculture (1897–98), taught horticulture at the University of Nebraska (1899–1914), then moved to Cornell University (1914–42). He made many rigorously detailed studies of the genetics of maize, and influenced many subsequent maize geneticists, including Nobel Prize winner Barbara McClintock.
