In east-central UT; organized Feb 12, 1880 (prior to statehood) from Sanpete and Sevier counties. Name Origin: For George W. Emery, a territorial governor (1875-80).

Area (sq mi): 4461.54 (land 4451.85; water 9.69). Pop per sq mi: 2.40.
Pop 2005: 10,711. State rank: 19. Pop change: 2000-20005 -1.40%; 1990-2000 5.10%. Pop 2000: 10,860 (White 92.50%; Black or African American 0.20%; Hispanic or Latino 5.20%; Asian 0.30%; Other 3.90%). Foreign born: 2.50%. Median age: 30.10.
Income 2000: per capita $14,243; median household $39,850; Pop below poverty level: 11.50%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $17,987-$19,098.
