Løvlien, Emil 

Born Sept. 22, 1899, in Løten, Hedmark; died June 4, 1973, in Oslo. A member of the Norwegian labor movement. Son of a poor peasant.

Løvlien began working as a lumberjack. He was one of the organizers of the trade union movement of lumberjacks in the fylke (county) of Hedmark. He was a member of the Norwegian Labor Party from 1918 to 1923. Løvlien joined the Communist Party of Norway (CPN) from the time it was founded in 1923. He was editor of the newspaper Arbeideren, the central organ of the CPN, in 1933–34. L0vlien was a member of the leadership of the CPN from 1934 to 1971. He was political secretary of the Central Committee of the CPN from 1934 to 1940, chairman of the party from 1946 to 1965, and a deputy to the Storting from 1945 to 1949 and from 1953 to 1961.
