Emma Wood State Beach Location: West of Ventura; family campsites are 2 miles west on US 101 and the group camp is at the west end of Main Street in Ventura. Facilities: 90 primitive family campsites for self-contained vehicles (no tents permitted), 4 developed group campsites (tent camping and primitive RV camping), picnic areas, hiking trails, bike trails. Group camp facilities include restrooms and water (no hook-ups); primitive campsites have no restrooms or water. Activities: Camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, hiking, bicycling. Special Features: The Ventura River Estuary at the southeast end of the beach attracts a variety of wildlife, including raccoons, songbirds, and great blue heron, and dolphins are occasionally seen just offshore. Site also includes the crumbling ruins of a World War II coastal artillery site.
