Encarnación 

a city in Paraguay. Capital of Itapúa Department. Population, 41,000 (1972). Encarnación, a river port on the Paraná, is linked by railroad with Asunción and by railroad ferry with Posadas, Argentina. Paraguay’s second leading economic center, the city produces tanning extract and has food-processing, cotton-ginning, leather and footwear, and lumber enterprises. It exports maté, lumber, rice, cotton, and tobacco. Encarnación was founded in 1614.
