Entsi
a small nationality, formerly known as the Yenisei Samoyeds, that is related to the Samoyed peoples. The Entsi, who live along the lower course of the Enisei in the Taimyr (Dolgan-Nenets) Autonomous Okrug (formerly Taimyr [Dolgan-Nenets] National Okrug), are divided into two groups: the tundra Entsi and the forest Entsi. Their language and culture resemble those of the Nganasani and Nentsi, with whom they are gradually intermingling. In the past, the Entsi engaged chiefly in hunting, reindeer raising, and fishing. Today the Entsi, with the Nentsi and Nganasani, work in fishing and reindeer-raising kolkhozes and sovkhozes. REFERENCESNarody Sibiri. Moscow-Leningrad, 1956.Dolgikh, B. O.
