Ivrea (ēvrĕ`ä), city (1991 pop. 24,704), Piedmont, NW Italy, on the Dora Baltea River. It is a commercial and industrial center, and it is the headquarters of Olivetti, an important Italian company. Manufactures include typewriters, computers, and textiles. A Roman town (Eporedia), it was later the capital of a Lombard duchy and then the seat of a marquisate. Berengar II Berengar II , d. 966, marquis of Ivrea. In 950 he made himself and his son joint kings of Italy, but his great unpopularity and his attempt to force Adelaide, his predecessor's widow, to marry his son, brought the intervention (951) of Otto I of Germany.
