baseband
Electronic data prior to any modification. It refers to analog or digital data before they are merged with other signals (multiplexed) or intermixed into a carrier wave (modulated). For example, the output of an analog microphone is baseband. Data being processed in the computer's memory are baseband. In a digital wireless system, the digital data are considered baseband before they are modulated into a carrier frequency for over-the-air transmission. See multiplexing and modulation.

Baseband Video
In this cable TV set-top box example, "baseband video" refers to the video-only signal from an analog VCR or camcorder. This composite video signal is not combined with the audio, and it is not riding within a carrier frequency. See composite video and carrier frequency.

baseband [′bās‚band]
(communications)
The band of frequencies occupied by all transmitted signals used to modulate the radio wave.

baseband - A transmission medium through which digital signals are sent without frequency shifting. In general, only one communication channel is available at any given time.

Ethernet is an example of a baseband network.
