baseband

Electronic data prior to any modification. It refers to analog or digital data before they are merged with other signals (multiplexed) or intermixed into a carrier wave (modulated). See multiplexing and modulation.

Baseband Video
Note the use of "baseband video" (red arrow) in this set-top cable box diagram. It refers to a pure video signal that is neither combined with the audio nor riding in a carrier for transmission. See composite video.


baseband - A transmission medium through which digital signals are sent without frequency shifting. In general, only one communication channel is available at any given time.

Ethernet is an example of a baseband network.
