Erivani, Mirza Kadym Mamed-Gusein Ogly

    0.01 sec.
Erivani, Mirza Kadym Mamed-Gusein Ogly

Born 1825 in Yerevan; died there 1875. Azerbaijani decorative artist and portraitist.

Erivani, who had no formal art training, was the founder of Azerbaijani easel painting. He also produced murals and designed stencils for embroidery. In his portraits he achieved lifelike representations of his subjects through his rendering of mass. Notable examples include Fath Ali Shah, Seated Woman, and A Young Man (all in the Azerbaijan Museum of Art, Baku). Erivani’s technique was an innovation in the Azerbaijani tradition of conventional flat portraiture.
