Erman

a mountain range in the eastern Transbaikalia, in Chita Oblast, RSFSR. The Erman Range, which lies along the right bank of the Onon River, is approximately 140 km long, with a maximum elevation of 1,434 m. It is composed of granites, gneisses, and schists. The slopes are covered with larch and pine forests. Steppe vegetation grows on the southeastern slope up to elevations of 900–1,000 m. The range was named for A. Erman, a German physicist and explorer (1806–77).
