Ernesto Ragionieri

Ragionieri, Ernesto 

Born June 10, 1926, in Sesto Fiorentino; died June 29, 1975, in Florence. Italian Marxist historian.

Ragioneri was primarily interested in the Italian and international labor movements, especially the German labor movement. He graduated from the University of Florence in 1948 and from 1955 was a professor there, teaching the Risorgi-mento and contemporary history. The author of numerous monographs, he was editor in chief of the publication of P. Togliatti’s works (1967–73); he also wrote the introductory articles. Ragionieri joined the Italian Communist Party in 1951 and became a member of its Central Committee in 1962.
